Cambridge University Press strives to positively impact the communities where we live and work. We do this through partnerships on social projects, and by inspiring philanthropy and promoting goodwill both inside and outside the company. We have established and participated in many initiatives that make a difference in local communities.
Bookstep
We strongly believe that education is the most effective and sustainable way to improve people's lives, as well as impact the countries' development.
The Booksteps program aims to provide educational opportunities to under-resourced students by donating books published by Cambridge University Press. We establish partnerships with schools and organizations. Since the program's inception in 2002, we have donated more than 26,000 books in support of 122 programs, which offer their students the possibility of a brighter and more successful future.
It has been very rewarding to watch the progress of English-language learning projects taking place throughout Brazil.
Food for thought
Hunger can be painful, disorienting, and over time can result in malnutrition. It is particularly devastating to children - increasing their susceptibility to chronic illness; behavioral problems; physical, mental, and emotional delays; lowered attention spans; and increasing absenteeism, tardiness, and school suspensions.
In Brazil, where there is tremendous social inequality, it is necessary for many charitable institutions to fight hunger across the country. Cambridge University Press contributes to eliminating hunger by inviting our customers to join us through both our events and those in which we participate.
All Cambridge University Press events are free of charge and we invite attendees and partners to bring one kilogram of non-perishable food which is donated to a local charity institution. Since the project started in 2003, we have received and donated over 7 tons.
Printing Smiles
This project aims at bringing smiles to children and their families through the Christmas Bag program at Grupo AMAR in São Paulo. Cambridge University Press provides gifts to a number of children during the holiday season. Each bag contains a new toy, toiletry items, a set of new clothes, and sweets. All Press employees in Brazil take part in this project and also contribute their own Christmas bags. Since 2003, we have donated 500 bags to children and their families.
